Contemporary design & build

This was a great garden to design and build. I was asked to design a garden that made a statement with a new modern contemporary feel.

After our consultation I decided the garden should be split into four different areas, as this was for a young family it needed to be practical. The areas being an entertaining area for summer BBQ’s and parties, family area so all the family could be together on either large comfortable garden sofas or a large table, a relaxing area for the parents only to enjoy and the lawn.

The garden was stripped right back before I started re-building it to my design. Using hardwood decking for the relaxing area, granite slabs for the new entertaining and family areas and a new sleeper retaining wall with integrated lighting gave the areas I wanted but all tied into each other. The contemporary design was achieved by block planting box hedging, painting the fence white (this was done by the home owner, who did an excellent job) and the sharp lines in the light & dark grey granite paving.

Planting was done to give a relaxed feel with date palms, corylines, bamboo a yucca and alliums bulbs for summer colour, Zinc planters were also used.

The garden continued to the front of the house down a shaded path, a shade raised border was added here using ferns and hosta’s.

Box hedging and more granite paving was used at the front to finish the garden off.
